Natural Milk.org is still fighting the dairy farmers of ontario – who have successfully lobbied to keep raw milk off the market.
Doesn’t matter that liberal honcho Greg Sorbara himself owns dairy cows iand thus can enjoy all the delicious raw milk he wants — as can all dairy farmers. But the dairy farmers – otherwise known as Scrooge – don’t want YOU the consumer to enjoy it. Means their control of product is loosened. it was the dairy farmers who stopped the sale of rich jersey milk in the province, unwanted competition. It is the dairy farmers who keep our cream so anemic. Butter fat heavy cream is expensive to produce.
No point going on about the safety of raw milk — almost thirty states in health-conscious US sell raw milk. Spinach is lots more dangerous, and processed meat, and inferior ground meat etc…..
Here’s naturalmilk.org’s latest appeal to Ontarians to help get raw milk on the market…please sign the petition!
Legalizing Natural (untreated) Milk in Ontario
Last update: December 2, 2009
Why is raw drinking milk unavailable for Ontario consumers? Because of the union mindset of the Dairy Farmers of Ontario (DFO) – a union of all the cow’s milk dairy farmers in Ontario. They have the same sense of entitlement and resistance to change that naturally develops in large unions over time. Think teachers’ union. They don’t want raw drinking milk and therefore consumers don’t have it. It’s that simple.
If the DFO wanted to, it could easily bring raw drinking milk to market. In fact its own charter obligates it to do so, but it refuses for a variety of reasons. It’s something new, it’s more overhead, it’ll reduce quota values, we can’t be sloppy and then have pasteurization clean up the milk, etc. Yet the DFO hides behind the antiquated 1938 health law that all milk must be pasteurized to make it safe, when the bovine diseases that prompted this law are now totally eradicated, and advances in modern refrigeration and dairy technology could eliminate the need for pasteurization altogether.
This website is dedicated to researching and promoting raw drinking milk for Ontario consumers. For a good summary of the issues and links, click on Wikipedia.
