Meal Replacements: **1/2 and could be 3 – All The Best’s Steak and Ale Pie

IMG_1193Wonderful flavour . Pie contains beef, onions, carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, beer, butter, celery, fresh thyme, fresh parsley, black peppercorns, bay leaves, …anchovies, tamarind extract, sweet potato, sesam e seeds, garlic, chili pepper, mustard powder…..

Only drawback: the meat isn’t cooked long enough. It’s stringy and tough, sticks in your teeth.

Solution: I remove the puff pastry crust and set it aside. I add a cup of water to pie and cook it very low heat for about two hours, then put the pastry lid back on top and heat it for a further 20 mins. I hope this has broken down the collagens in the connective tissue enough.

Result: tenderer meat and even more intensely delicious gravy. Pie for two $7.95
