Go ahead and say it – “Merry Christmas”

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 72% of adults prefer “Merry Christmas,” while 22% like “Happy Holidays” instead.

Hooray, the dark ages of religious intolerance may be coming to an end!

For  years, Christians have moused around at Christmas time, made to feel guilty that they are excluding non-Christians, urged to go secular and worship a reindeer.  Now we can   celebrate Christmas out loud, actually saying to the world “Merry Christmas” not “Seasons Greetings” or most egregious “Happy Holidays.” There is only one holy day in December and it’s called Christmas. This means no disrespect to other faiths which have their own celebrations. I’m happy to share my Christmas roast goose with everyone. Seems to me you don’t have to be a Christian to enjoy the great Christmas music and paintings., whether its the Messiah or I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas, whether the Sallyann poster or Piero Della Francesca’s mother and child. They’re part of our shared cultural  inheritance.

Course there’s still work to be done. The greedy shopowners in the malls have banned the Salvation Army from ringing their bells! Might distract shoppers from spending money on material goods! And I suppose there will be the usual PC fights in England where Christmas lights are banned in some towns and carols banned from public singing.

If you want to be all inclusive, here’s a greeting for you “HAPPY NEW YEAR”

It’s applicable on every occasion considering people celebrate different New Years.
