Anti Food inc: The Real Food Future….

I’ve been invited to talk about the future of eating at a Slow Food convivium being given by Harrisburg Slow Food at the Cellar Restaurant  in Camp Hill. Date: Friday, June 19. Call 717- 724.2803.

For a distinctly unelite $50 we’re going to eat a dinner made from ONLY fresh and local ingredients, weather I guess permitting.

So you’ve seen or heard of the food bashing flick Food Inc. Well I’m the anti Food Inc. I’m just having to limit the revolting pics  of the fattest man in the world and distraught chickens cos I don’t want anyone to stop eating, which is the purpose of the movie.

No, I’m going to tell the real story of future food,  and it sure isn’t going to be chicken buddies in the backyard   or a diet of hay. I’m going to talk about scientific discoveries about breeding food and about eating food, from genetic modification to a diet based on your own DNA. I’m gonna celebrate the way the fresh and local movement has brightened our meals and is influencing processed food. I’m also gonna celebrate how science is improving what we eat.  In Toronto, a winter tomato is no longer a thing of ridicule — but thanks to hydroponic growing here and round the world — is true juicy fruit.  I ate a ripe hydroponic Campari, less than a dollar, then a six buck organic heirloom. Guess which tasted better.
